First rule of marketing is to know your demographic audience and target your promotions accordingly. Correct product placement aimed at the correct audience has always been at the core of every successful merchandise in the market, and books of course are no exception. The purpose of a poster is to bring in new customers, so the targeted audience for a publisher is obviously people who haven't read the book yet.
Well...anyone with a degree in marketing or economics will probably freak out, but my targeted audience has always been the people who have already read the book. Sorry marketing and economics folks, but let's face it, it is THAT easy to break your precious rules. Simply because even though you think that what you do is a science... it's not. I can't defy gravity, because I am bound by the laws of physics. Physics, is a science. I can't turn water into beer, because chemistry is a science. I CAN though break every single rule you have in your precious little marketing books... you know why? Cause economics are not...and never will be a science. A science has "laws" that can't be broken... you have "rules." That's it. Just rules... and rules are made to be broken.
The Unposters are aimed towards you who are familiar with The Unwords. You are the only one's who can fully understand the sarcasm, the taglines... and ofcourse, the humour. I hope this latest poster succeeds in its "marketing goal..." to bring a smile to your face.
