The Patriot Syndrome

"Patriotism is a disease..."

Whenever I say that someone always replies with a comment like "you're an idiot for saying that" or "you should be ashamed of yourself for disrespecting your country."

But the thing is that, I didn't say that...

                                                  ...I'm just plagiarizing.

And I just can't see how Einstein was a disrespect to his country.

  1. I love Einstein!! It really irks people when I use this quote too, especially when I then proceed to tell them who said it first :) I've had some serious arguments due to those four words...

  2. I remember I wrote an essay in school entitled "Patriotism is a disease." My teacher liked it but it kind of put me in trouble with some other members of my class. When the teacher was giving the essays back to us she said to me "it's a good essay but you should always quote other people's words when you use them. Next time remember to mention that Einstein said that."

I had no idea what she was talking about...back then, we didn't have the internet, and it wasn't so easy to find other's quotes and stuff like that. And I wasn't really into science back then, so even though I knew who Einstein was of course, I had never actually read anything that he wrote up until that point. That's how I got interested in his work and in science in general... through plagiarizing. :)
